Questions. How to Advertise on Facebook?
This is selected a collection of Frequently
Asked Questions related to Facebook Advertising, Facebook
Pages, Groups and other topics discussed in this book. If
you can't find your answer here, please fill in the fill in
the form on our contact page.
Do I have to pay for Facebook
Ads? How much do they cost?
Yes, there are costs associated with Facebook
Ads. You can estimate the cost as you create your ads. If
you'd like to see what we recommend you bid for each click
(CPC) or thousand impressions (CPM), just enter your targeting
criteria and go through to the last step of ad creation (you
won't have to enter any payment information until the next
step, so you can do this without purchasing an ad). The "bid
estimator" will show you the range of bids that are currently
winning the auction among ads similar to yours.
When you run your ad you will only be charged
for the number of clicks you receive (CPC) or the number of
impressions of your ad that are displayed (CPM). The amount
that you are charged will never exceed your daily budget.
There are no additional fees for running Facebook Ads.
Can I choose where my ad
appears on the site?
All Facebook Ads will appear in the Ad Space
in the right-hand column of pages throughout Facebook. It
is not possible to choose whether your ad appears in the first,
second, or third placement within the Ad Space. The homepage
ad placement, located just to the right of the News Feed,
is currently only available to a limited set of advertisers
who are in direct relationships with our sales team. As this
space continues to evolve and improve, Facebook will provide
more details regarding its availability.
Will I ever be billed more
than my maximum cost per click or maximum CPM?
No, you will never be billed more than your
maximum cost per click or the maximum CPM that you have specified.
Why
can’t I see metrics for my ads?
Under normal circumstances, your ad will
begin being served within an hour after being purchased. Statistics
will be available in your account within one hour after delivery
starts. Exportable daily reports will be available 12 hours
after the end of the day reported.
Please note that you are not guaranteed any
number of clicks or impressions. If you are not receiving
as many clicks as you would like, we suggest increasing your
maximum bid and/or making your ad more relevant. It is also
possible that your targeting constraints are too restrictive,
and there are not enough users who satisfy the criteria. Thus,
you should also consider relaxing your targeting constraints.
Why hasn't my ad started
running yet?
If you just created your ad, please check
back in a couple hours. It is possible that your ad is receiving
clicks and impressions but the statistics haven't updated
yet.
You will not see your ad actually running
on Facebook unless you are a member of the target audience
that you selected for your ad. Additionally, even if you are
a member, you aren’t guaranteed to see your ad. This
doesn't mean your ad isn't running, just that our system has
determined that other ads would be more relevant to you. As
long as you are seeing impressions reported in your ad statistics,
this means your ad is running and can be seen by users.
My ad is not receiving
as many impressions or clicks as I'd like.
Please note that you are not guaranteed any
number of clicks or impressions. For any given ad unit, we
select the best ad to run based on the cost per click or cost
per thousand impressions and ad performance. Therefore, if
you are not receiving as many clicks or impressions as you
would like, we suggest increasing your maximum cost per click
or maximum CPM. Please make sure that your ad is as relevant
as possible by targeting your ad to the most appropriate audience.
Your ad is more likely to perform better and continue running
successfully if it is being displayed to the users who are
likely to be the most interested in your ad and click on your
ad.
Should I edit my ad, or
create a similar ad?
If you think you might want to run an older
version of an ad again, or would like to run similar ads simultaneously
and compare their performance during the same period, you
might want to create a similar ad, since this will preserve
the old version while creating a new one. If you know you
won't run your older ad again, or want continuous reporting
before and after you change your ad, you might want to edit
the ad so that the new version will replace the old.
Do advertisers have access
to my personal information?
Facebook does not give advertisers access
to the personal information you choose to put on the site.
Advertisers will be subject to all of the privacy settings
you have in place on your account, and will only be able to
see your profile or other information if you've allowed them
to do so.
Facebook's ad targeting is done automatically
and anonymously by our system. When advertisers choose to
target their ads to an audience that includes you as a user,
the system automatically matches those ads to your data, without
exposing either advertiser or user data to the other.
Where can I view and edit
my privacy settings for ads?
You can edit your ad privacy settings through
the "Settings" tab at the top of any page within
Facebook, or by copying and pasting this link to your browser:
http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=feeds&tab=ads
What do the 'Like' and
'X' options on ads do?
The 'Like' and 'X' buttons are a way for
users to give us quick and easy feedback on the ads they are
seeing. We will then take this feedback into account as we
continue to improve our advertising systems for all advertisers
and users. If you choose to provide feedback for an ad, this
may not immediately affect how often you see this or similar
ads.
What types of ads will
appear in the new Home Page placement alongside News Feed?
The home page ad placement (Sponsored Ads),
located just to the right of the News Feed, is similar to
existing Facebook Ads and will display a combination of an
image and text. This placement is currently only available
to a limited set of advertisers. As this space continues to
evolve and improve, Facebook will provide more details regarding
its availability.
My ad was disapproved for
issues with the ad text, and I don’t understand why.
If your ad has been rejected for text errors
such as spelling, capitalization or punctuation, please read
carefully the disapproval email, as well as the disapproval
explanations within your account. Your ads have been disapproved
for specific reasons, so these explanations will include specific
information about the problem(s) with your ads.
You can also find more details about these
issues in Facebook's Advertising Guidelines. Be sure to review
the disapproval details that were sent to your account email
address, and are also visible in your Ads Manager alongside
each disapproved ad.
My ad was disapproved for
its image and I don't understand why.
If you choose to include an image with your
ad, it must be relevant and appropriate to the ad. Images
that are overly suggestive or graphic in any way may be rejected
even if they are relevant to the ad. Images that may be insulting
or demeaning to users in any way are prohibited. If the image
contains text, the text must adhere to all of the same policies
that apply to the regular ad text.
What are my payment options?
Currently, credit cards and co-branded debit
cards (Visa or Mastercard, and American Express or JCB for
certain currencies) are the only accepted method of payment
for ads. Facebook does not currently offer an invoicing as
a payment options for ads.

I keep getting an error
message when I try to purchase my ads.
Facebook currently accepts the following
payment methods for the currencies indicated:
- US Dollars – Visa, Mastercard, American Express,
JCB
- Japanese Yen – Visa, Mastercard, JCB
- Other currencies – Visa, Mastercard
These credit cards are the only accepted
method of payment for ads. You may also pay with a co-branded
debit card. Unfortunately pure debit cards unassociated with
these brands will not be accepted. Additionally, Facebook
is currently unable to perform invoicing for advertising campaigns.
Can I be invoiced for my
campaign?
At this time, credit cards are the only accepted
method of payment for Facebook Ads. Facebook hopes to make
more payment options available in the future. If you need
a printed invoice, you can access and print one from within
your account. When viewing your ad campaigns, simply click
the "Account Billing Summary" link at the bottom
of the page. On the summary page, you can click on each charge
to see more detailed information.
Will I be charged for my
ad if it didn't receive impressions or clicks?
Facebook will not charge you for your ad
if you chose CPM pricing and your ad did not receive any impressions.
They will also not charge you for your ad if you chose CPC
pricing and your ad did not receive any clicks.
How do I access receipts
for advertising services?
Your Billing Manager lists of all your account
charges and invoices organized by month. To access your Billing
Manager, from the Ads Manager page, click the ‘Billing’
tab at the top of the screen. To see a more detailed breakdown
of each credit card charge, please click on the description
next to the charge you would like more information about.
Please note that if you have not been charged yet, you will
not see any information on your Billing Summary page.
What is an advertising
credit?
An advertising credit is a form of payment
for your Facebook Ads. Credits may be offered through partnerships
Facebook has with other sites or companies, or through periodic
promotions. If you have an advertising credit on your account,
ad charges will first be deducted from the credit, and your
credit card will be charged when the credit has been depleted
or expired. It's not currently possible to purchase or request
credits from Facebook.
